Measurements

How big is one 'block' in the lines that we draw ?
How big is the orange rectangle exactly?

I'd like to convert my sliced area into square meters. :)

i actually dont' exactly know! ;)

plus, it changes depending on your latitude because i project a square onto a sphere. so the further north you are, the faster you can slice.

There used to be a scale on the map but I haven't seen it in a while.

Helps to explain why the Germans & Danes are doing so well. Until now I was thinking it was the Geman's need to conguer & people in Amsterdam hitting several different coffee shops & then wondering in circles.

I'll write that off as another "Sunshine Tax" for living in Southern California. 8-)

So far I didn't see any active Danes, specially not in Amsterdam.
The Dutch on the other hand are quite active.... 8-)

Dutch / Danes, sorry about that to both & to all Americans for furthering our stereotype.

Back to the topic. If I understand the chart on Degree Length....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longitude

...Someone at 30deg longitude would have to travel 96 km to match someone at 60deg doing 55km.

But you can slice more walking/riding because you don't live in the freakin' cold cities of the North !
